BMW’s electric car revolution

At 1195 kg, the i3 is 90 kg lighter than today’s 114i hatch. Carbonfibre bodyshell

sits on an extruded aluminium  chassis and is stiff enough to forgo B-pillars. A 

22kWh battery pack is under the floor.

Rear wheels driven by a BMW-designed 168bhp electric motor via a single-ratio 

transmission. Optional petrol generator is also in rear. 0-62 mph in 7.2 secs.
